Study of incidence, microbiological profile of nosocomial infections in pediatric intensive care unit of tertiary care center

Background: Prevalence of nosocomial infections in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) ranges between from 6-26%. Increased use broad-spectrum antibiotics, urinary and central venous catheterization endotracheal intubation put patients at an increased risk affecting with patients. Methods: A hospital based prospective study was carried out on 725 aged 1 month 12 years admitted PICU Al-Ameen medical college hospital, Bijapur, Karnataka, India institute child health for children, Madras college, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 15-09-2020 to 15-08-2022. All who were fever or developed first 48 hours life excluded the study. The data obtained course analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. Results: Out admissions, incidence infection present found be 108 (14.8%). Concerning type infection, commonest reported types central-line associated bloodstream (CABI) 59 (54.6%) ventilator-associated (VAI) 52 (48.1%), followed 45 (41.6%), catheter tract (CA-UTI) 38 (35.1%) (UTI) 30 (27.7%) respectively. Conclusions: 14.8%. line blood stream predominant cause infection. This information can help decision makers establish preventive strategies implement effective reliable plans.
